Ross Millar is a sound and visual artist working within the modernist tradition. Based on experiments in form and style, his work centres on the juxtaposition of industrialisation and mechanisation of the social with the construction of narrative structures illuminating agency, autopoiesis and streams of consciousness. Ross’s approach has a number of metaphorical connections with contemporary discussion exploring ‘Edgelands’ in urban life.
As part of SOUNDkitchen’s STONEsoup, Ross presents excerpts from a piece entitled ‘Take Me High’. Inspired by the work of urban policy analyst Dr Stephen Jeffares, it presents a thematic overview of ‘Birmingham’ as a worked example of the approach. A full length version will be performed later this year along with his latest work ‘The Only Pureness Left’.
