James Carpenter is an electroacoustic composer, living and working in Birmingham. He has a PhD in acousmatic composition from the University of Birmingham and has taught composition, sound recording and related disciplines variously at the University of Birmingham and University of Bristol since 2006. James also works as Projects Coordinator for Birmingham Contemporary Music Group where, amongst other things, he is the ensemble’s Platform Manager and also advises the group on technical aspects of their performances.

In his spare time James enjoys gardening with his family and developing Python scripts.
