The third act on our line up for the final event of our 2014 Series #04 is Spanish composer and sound artist Elías Merino.
Merino’s work explores computer-generated composition, electroacoustic music, soundscape and concrète sounds as an abstract and imaginary object away from the acoustic environment, and involves sound processes achieved mainly through digital technology.
For his solo performance Merino will combine different practices of electroacoustic music through the hybridisation of digital synthesis, traditional instrumentation and transformed soundscapes. These sound elements are developed under an algorithmic/non-objectified approach, influenced more by ideas about freedom, autonomy and the moral subject of Immanuel Kant, than emergence systems or artificial intelligence.
In Merino’s music, shards and traces of musical instruments blend with obscure concrete sounds and pure digital tones and drones in reverberant acoustic spaces of depth and intrigue.
