SOUNDkitchen Series #03 includes the third of our New Collaborations that brings together bass player Chris Mapp and electronic musician Ben Ramsay. While both artists have performed at SOUNDkitchen in the past, this is the first time they have performed together as a duo. Solos from each artist will bookend a central section where both will improvise, with Mapp shaping Ramsay’s material and Ramsay processing Mapp’s sounds. We are looking forward to hearing the blend of Mapp’s manipulated bass improv with Ramsay’s electronic beats, textures and grainy noise.

Mapp is a bass player, improviser and composer.  As a bass player and improviser Chris has played with Paul Dunmall, Mark Sanders, Ken Vandermark, Steve Tromans, Tim Daisy, Dave Rempis and collaborated with Justin Wiggan of Dreams of Tall Buildings..  He uses electronics to manipulate the sound of his instrument, creating soundscapes and un-bass-like sound worlds. As a composer Chris uses found sounds and field recordings as inspiration and staring points, connecting them together with improvisation through graphic scores and traditional notation.
